Chicago – June 25, 2026

Thousands of Americans flocked to the National Mall this week as the Great American State Fair officially kicked off, marking a centerpiece of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

President Donald Trump delivered a patriotic address at the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair Kick-Off Celebration on June 24, hailing American exceptionalism and the nation’s achievements ahead of the semiquincentennial milestone. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins were among senior officials in attendance.

The free, 16-day event — organized by Freedom 250 — runs from June 25 through July 10, 2026, and features attractions including a Ferris wheel, fireworks, and exhibits across the National Mall. Tight security measures were put in place for the opening days of the celebration.

The event has not been without controversy. Several states declined participation, citing concerns over costs and partisanship, with at least six states formally opting out. Despite these challenges, the fair drew large crowds eager to mark a historic milestone in American history.
