Congress is once again considering legislation to make daylight saving time permanent, a proposal supporters say would eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes and provide more evening daylight year-round. However, many sleep and health experts argue that adopting permanent standard time would be a better option.
They say standard time aligns more closely with the body’s natural circadian rhythm, improving sleep, alertness and overall health. While lawmakers continue to debate the issue, experts emphasize that ending seasonal clock changes is widely supported, but the choice of which time system to keep remains a subject of ongoing discussion. Any permanent change would require congressional approval before taking effect.
