Chicago – August 29, 2026

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has proposed renaming Nashville International Airport after country music legend Dolly Parton, honoring the singer, songwriter and philanthropist’s extraordinary contributions to the state.
Lee’s proposal would recognize Parton’s decades-long impact on Tennessee’s culture, tourism and economy. The East Tennessee native has become one of the state’s most internationally recognized figures through her music, business ventures and charitable work.
Parton, 80, is also widely known for her philanthropic efforts, including the Dollywood Foundation’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children, and major support for education and disaster relief.
The proposal comes as Tennessee officials consider ways to highlight the state’s cultural heritage and global reputation. Nashville’s airport is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the region and serves millions of passengers each year.
Any name change would require approval through the appropriate state and airport authorities.
