Syed Asim Waqar, a prominent spokesperson of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has joined the Congress party, marking a significant political development in Telangana.
Waqar, who was associated with the party led by Asaduddin Owaisi, reportedly criticised the AIMIM’s political functioning after announcing his decision to leave the organisation. His move comes amid ongoing political realignments in Telangana, where Congress is seeking to strengthen its organisational base.
While joining Congress, Waqar is reported to have raised concerns about the AIMIM’s leadership and political approach. His departure could attract attention given his previous role as a public-facing representative of the Owaisi-led party.
Congress leaders welcomed Waqar into the party and described his joining as a boost to their organisation. AIMIM, meanwhile, remains an influential political force in parts of Telangana, particularly Hyderabad.
