enate Democrats agree that cutting wasteful spending in the federal government is necessary, but they strongly disagree with Elon Musk’s approach. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been rescinding hundreds of millions of dollars in spending, but Democrats argue that this is not the right way to do it.

Senator Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., emphasized that while there is wasteful spending, it’s essential to examine each program carefully and go through Congress to eliminate unnecessary expenses. Senator Chris Murphy, D-Conn., added that there are areas where spending can be cut, such as on prescription drugs, but Musk’s DOGE is not focusing on these areas ¹.

Democrats are concerned that DOGE is more interested in benefiting billionaires like Musk rather than genuinely improving government efficiency. Murphy stated, “DOGE is turning the country over to the billionaires. They’re looking to make money for themselves.” This criticism comes as Musk’s DOGE has been facing scrutiny over its methods and potential conflicts of interest.
