The 62nd Annual ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) Convention commenced on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. This event, which will continue until September 1, 2025, brought together over 2,000 participants to engage in meaningful discussions.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson himself participated in a significant discussion on “Unconstitutional Crackdowns: Protecting Freedom of Speech.” Mayor Johnson’s involvement demonstrated the city’s commitment to engaging with Islamic-American communities. Other key figures such as ISNA President Syed Imtiaz Ahmed, Chairperson Azhar Azeez, and community leaders Tariq Siddique, Meer Zia Ali Khan, and Engr. Mujeeb Osman played pivotal roles in shaping the direction of the convention.

12:50 PM – 1:40 PM: Jummah Prayer (Hall A)

The opening of the convention was marked by the Jummah Prayer, held in Hall A at 12:50 PM. Former ISNA President Azhar Azeez delivered the khutbah (sermon), offering reflections on the significance of prayer and the role of faith in challenging times. The prayer session was an opportunity for attendees to spiritually ground themselves before delving into the convention’s rich agenda.

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Opening Ceremony (Room 14)

Following the Jummah Prayer, the Opening Ceremony took place in Room 14. This session featured welcome remarks and messages from organizational representatives and leaders, setting the tone for the event. A key moment of this session was the acknowledgment of the collective effort to renew the spirit of community following the foots steps of Prophet (SAWW), focusing on faith, justice, and unity.

4:45 PM – 6:00 PM: Main Session 1 – Cultivating Piety and Mindfulness in a Distracted World (Room 14)

The first main session, “Cultivating Piety and Mindfulness in a Distracted World,” addressed the challenges of staying grounded in spirituality amid the distractions of modern life. This session called attendees to action, urging them to resist societal clamor and tracing Prophet Muhammad’s steps while serving with unwavering integrity. The discussion emphasized the importance of mindfulness and piety as tools for navigating a chaotic world.

6:15 PM – 7:30 PM: Main Session 2 – Ethics, Engagement, and Empathy to Create a More Humane World (Room 14)

With more than 110 armed conflicts occurring worldwide, the session focused on how spirituality must rise beyond passive reflection and anchor itself in justice and compassion. The speakers highlighted how ethical engagement in the face of violence and injustice could lead to lasting change and a more just global society.

8:15 PM – 10:00 PM: Main Session 3 – Faith, Family, and Future: Navigating Chaos with Purpose (Room 14)

The third main session, “Faith, Family, and Future: Navigating Chaos with Purpose,” explored how, in times of global chaos, family becomes a sanctuary of peace and stability. The session delved into the deep trials and sacrifices that families face and how love, duty, and compassion intersect to provide a foundation for hope and purpose. The speakers focused on the vital role of faith and family in maintaining resilience and navigating through life’s challenges.

10:00 PM – 11:00 PM: Main Session 4 – Centennial Reflections on Malcolm X: A Legacy of Justice and Transformation (Room 14)

The final main session of the day was dedicated to Malcolm X, marking 100 years since his birth and 60 years since his passing. “Centennial Reflections on Malcolm X: A Legacy of Justice and Transformation” explored his life as a symbol of justice and transformation, calling upon attendees to stand firmly for justice in all aspects of life. The speakers reflected on Malcolm X’s evolution from activism to spiritual growth and how his legacy continues to inspire individuals across different faiths.
