The Biggest Healthcare Scam in US History
The US Justice Department has uncovered a massive healthcare scam worth $14.6 billion, making it the largest healthcare fraud scheme in US history. Over 300 people, including 96 medical professionals, have been charged for their involvement in the scam. These individuals and companies allegedly submitted fake claims to Medicare and other healthcare programs.

How the Scam Worked
The scammers used telemedicine companies and call centers to target Medicare beneficiaries, convincing them to undergo unnecessary genetic testing. They then billed Medicare for expensive tests without the patients’ consent. Some scammers even used artificial intelligence to create fake recordings of patients consenting to receive medical products. The scammers made millions of dollars by submitting false claims to Medicare.

Consequences and Next Steps
The Justice Department has seized over $245 million in assets, including luxury homes and cars. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have revoked billing privileges for dozens of labs involved in the scam. Attorney General Merrick Garland called it a “brazen exploitation” of federal healthcare programs. The government is committed to stopping healthcare fraud and protecting patients from unnecessary procedures.
