Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra charged on social media that “the Israeli state is committing genocide,” alleging over 60,000 people killed, including 18,430 children, citing Gaza health ministry figures. She condemned global and Indian governmental silence as complicit in facilitating the crisis.

Within hours, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, responded sharply on X, asserting, “What is shameful is your deceit.” He described Israel’s military campaign as targeting 25,000 Hamas terrorists, not civilians, and blamed Hamas’s tactics—hiding behind civilians, firing rockets, and obstructing evacuations—for civilian casualties.

The remarks sparked strong backlash from India’s Congress party. Senior figures condemned the tone as “undiplomatic” and an affront to democratic values, demanding the Indian government take appropriate action or seek an apology
