Congress Tackles Trump’s Policy Agenda
After the holiday break, Congress is back in session with a big task: turning President Trump’s domestic policy ideas into a huge bill worth trillions of dollars. This bill will cover many areas, such as tax cuts, increased military spending, and border security.

Challenges Ahead
Although Republicans control both the House and Senate, they are having trouble agreeing on key parts of the plan. Different groups within the party can’t seem to find common ground on the budget framework. The House barely approved the bill before the break, and now they will start working on the next steps.

Using Reconciliation
To pass the bill, Republicans are using a special tool called reconciliation. This allows them to bypass the usual 60-vote requirement in the Senate. Committees will work on changing revenue, spending, and deficits according to specific instructions.

Putting It All Together
The budget committee will combine all the drafted legislation into one big package for both chambers to vote on. However, getting to this point will be difficult due to internal divisions within the GOP.

Can They Succeed?
House Speaker Mike Johnson wants to get the legislation to Trump’s desk by Memorial Day, but this might be too ambitious. With a slim majority, Republicans face a tough challenge in keeping their party united.

Expert Opinion
According to law professor Josh Chafetz, “They have a very slim majority… Can they keep the entire conference together in both chambers?” The coming weeks will test the GOP’s ability to overcome their differences and pass the bill.
