Bondi Vows Reform, Denies DOJ Politicization Under Trump
During her January confirmation hearing, Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to crack down on violent crime and restore trust in the Justice Department. Echoing President Trump, she criticized what she described as the Biden administration’s political misuse of the DOJ, citing Trump’s prosecutions as examples. “The partisanship, the weaponization will be gone,” she told lawmakers, pledging equal justice for all. Bondi’s allies, including former Trump lawyer John Lauro, defend her actions, claiming she’s working to reverse prior abuses and bring integrity back to the DOJ.
Critics Accuse Bondi of Using DOJ for Trump’s Agenda
Despite Bondi’s pledges, critics argue she’s politicizing the department to serve Trump’s interests. Former DOJ official Liz Oyer claims the DOJ is now operating like Trump’s personal law firm, suggesting Bondi takes direct orders from the president, targeting his political opponents and helping his allies. “The DOJ is whatever the president wants it to be right now,” Oyer said, voicing concern over the department’s independence and impartiality.
