Europe Recognizes Palestine; Countries Isolate Israel
Several European nations, including Spain, Ireland, and Norway, have officially recognized Palestine as a sovereign state, marking a significant diplomatic shift. This move aligns with growing international pressure on Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
The recognition has drawn strong condemnation from Israel, which recalled its ambassadors from these countries, accusing them of “rewarding terrorism.” Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) is pursuing arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders over alleged war crimes.
In a parallel development, Turkey, South Africa, and other nations have suspended trade or diplomatic ties with Israel, further isolating the country. The U.S. and Germany continue to support Israel, but global calls for a ceasefire and Palestinian statehood are intensifying.
The UN reports over 37,000 Palestinian casualties in Gaza, while Israel defends its actions as self-defense following Hamas’ October 7 attacks. Diplomatic tensions are expected to escalate as more countries weigh recognizing Palestine.
