A recent Gallup poll found that 45% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents want their party to become more moderate. This is an 11% increase since 2021. At the same time, the number of Democrats who want their party to be more liberal has decreased by 5% to 29%.
The poll also showed that Republicans are happy with their party’s current ideology. Two-thirds of Republicans identify as conservative, while 31% say they are moderate, and only 2% call themselves liberal.
This shift in Democratic views may be a response to the party’s losses in November’s elections. The poll was conducted after President Donald Trump’s inauguration, which may have also influenced the results.
The Gallup poll suggests that Democrats are looking for a change in direction, while Republicans are satisfied with their party’s current path. This could have significant implications for future elections and the direction of the two parties.
