Former President Barack Obama on Sunday praised President Joe Biden’s move to drop out of the race for president, calling his former vice president “a patriot of the highest order.”
“Joe understands better than anyone the stakes in this election — how everything he has fought for throughout his life, and everything that the Democratic Party stands for, will be at risk if we allow Donald Trump back in the White House and give Republicans control of Congress,” Obama wrote in a statement issued about two hours after Biden’s announcement and follow-up endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris to run in his place.
Biden stunned the nation Sunday when he announced he would no longer seek reelection to the White House, putting an end to weeks of speculation and controversy over his standing as the Democratic nominee.
