Chicago – April 14, 2025
On Sunday, people from diverse political affiliations and various sections of society gathered at Nizam College Grounds to participate in a massive protest rally against the Waqf Amendment Act (WAA) 2025. The rally marched towards the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund, with demonstrators waving the national flag and chanting slogans against the BJP-led government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Participants, cutting across party lines and societal backgrounds, condemned the WAA as unconstitutional and accused it of being aimed at targeting minorities and their waqf properties. A significant number of women also joined the protest to voice their opposition.
Among the notable attendees were Saharanpur MP Imran Masood, TMREIS chairman Faheem Qureshi, Government Advisor on Minority Affairs Mohd Ali Shabbir, along with several social activists, student union leaders, and prominent social media influencers.
Police deployed heavy security to manage the rally, but major traffic congestion was reported in central parts of the city due to the large turnout.
