Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker sharply criticized President Donald Trump during a press conference, rejecting the president’s rhetoric and reported threats involving federal intervention in Chicago.
Pritzker said Illinois has not requested federal troops or National Guard assistance and argued that any unilateral deployment would be unnecessary and unconstitutional. He accused Trump of exaggerating crime in Chicago for political purposes and warned that such actions would undermine state authority and the separation of powers.
“Do not come,” Pritzker said, adding that Illinois is capable of managing public safety without federal interference. He emphasized that crime trends in Chicago have improved and said long-term solutions require investment in communities, not military-style responses.
The governor also signaled Illinois would pursue legal action if the federal government attempts to deploy forces without state consent, framing the dispute as part of a broader defense of states’ rights and democratic norms.
