Chicago – January 26, 2026

India celebrated its 77th Republic Day with great pride, patriotism, and enthusiasm on 26 January, marking an important milestone in the nation’s democratic journey. This day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950, which transformed India into a sovereign, democratic republic.

Republic Day is not just a national holiday; it is a reminder of the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity that form the foundation of the Constitution. After gaining independence in 1947, India needed a strong legal framework to govern itself. Under the leadership of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Constituent Assembly drafted the Constitution, which came into effect on 26 January 1950.

The highlight of the 77th Republic Day celebrations was the grand parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. The parade showcased India’s rich cultural diversity, military strength, and technological progress. Colorful tableaux from different states and union territories reflected the nation’s heritage, achievements, and vision for the future. The Armed Forces displayed their discipline and capability, reinforcing India’s commitment to national security.
