GAZA STRIP – Israeli armored and infantry units have tightened their encirclement of Gaza City, engaging in intense urban combat with Hamas militants as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the long-anticipated ground offensive the “second stage” of a war triggered by the deadliest attack in Israel’s history.

The developments on the ground coincide with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will chair a public meeting in Florida, drawing attention back to the domestic political sphere.

Military Situation: Siege of Gaza City Intensifies

After nearly two weeks of aerial bombardment and a gradual buildup of forces, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) significantly expanded ground operations over the weekend. IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that forces are now operating “in the field” inside the Gaza strip, with armored and combat engineering corps units supported by infantry.
