Chicago – December 29, 2025
President Trump, long known for his career in real estate before entering politics, has returned to his roots during his latest term in the White House taking a hands-on role in multiple renovation and redesign projects. While he has been actively reshaping policy, issuing hundreds of executive actions, and engaging in major international trade initiatives, he has also devoted significant time to remodeling and interior upgrades across federal properties.
Speaking recently, Trump described himself as holding “two jobs,” noting that while his primary role is serving as commander in chief, his passion for building has never left him. He explained that construction work feels like a form of relaxation because he has been involved in it throughout his life.
Over the past year, Trump has personally overseen design changes and several large-scale renovation efforts. During a speech honoring Kennedy Center award recipients including Gloria Gaynor and the band Kiss he took a brief detour to reflect on his renovation projects, joking that even he finds it difficult to decide whether he is a better builder or politician.
Trump said he gains a sense of satisfaction from updating spaces such as the White House and the Kennedy Center, even acknowledging that the projects demand time and attention. However, he emphasized that he prefers staying busy, remarking that unlike many people, he has little interest in slowing down or resting.
These ongoing renovation efforts highlight the president’s continued connection to his real-estate background and his desire to leave a visible mark on the institutions he oversees.
