Senator Mike Lee of Utah recently criticized NBC News for selectively omitting part of the 14th Amendment during an interview with President-elect Donald Trump on NBC’s Meet the Press. The topic of discussion was birthright citizenship, a policy under the 14th Amendment that grants U.S. citizenship to anyone born in the country, regardless of their parents’ citizenship.
During the interview, Trump confirmed that he plans to end birthright citizenship “on Day One” of his presidency, calling the policy “ridiculous.”
Trump argued that the U.S. is the only country with this policy and expressed his intention to eliminate it, possibly through executive action. He referred to birthright citizenship as something that needs to be stopped, emphasizing that the current system is not working and needs reform.
Throughout the interview, Trump also addressed several other key issues, including his plans to restore America’s standing on the global stage and his thoughts on FBI Director Christopher Wray. He also discussed his strategy for bringing the nation together.
Trump said his inaugural address would focus on unity and success, asserting that achieving success can help unify the country. He stressed the importance of making the country safer and keeping out people who should not be in the U.S. Trump’s message was clear: he intends to bring the country together through strong leadership and a focus on security and national prosperity.
