Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a major lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase and its Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon, accusing the bank of closing his accounts for political reasons. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in a Miami-Dade County state court, seeks at least $5 billion in damages.
The legal action follows public threats Trump made days earlier on his social media platform, Truth Social, and marks a sharp escalation in tensions between Trump and one of the most influential banking executives in the United States.
Allegations of Political Discrimination
According to the lawsuit, JPMorgan Chase terminated Trump’s banking relationship in 2021, just weeks after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump claims the decision was not based on financial risk or regulatory concerns but instead driven by political and ideological motives.
The filing alleges that JPMorgan acted to distance itself from Trump due to what it describes as “unsubstantiated, woke beliefs” and disagreement with his conservative political views. Trump argues that the bank’s actions amounted to unlawful discrimination based on political ideology.
