Mike Pence to Receive JFK Profile in Courage Award
Former Vice President Mike Pence will be honored with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for upholding the U.S. Constitution by refusing to support Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. On January 6, 2021, Pence resisted pressure from Trump to overturn the results and certified Joe Biden’s victory despite the violent Capitol riot. The JFK Library Foundation praised Pence for risking his career and personal safety to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. He will receive the award from Caroline Kennedy and Jack Schlossberg.
Aftermath and Political Fallout
Following the events of January 6, Trump criticized Pence, and rioters even chanted threats against him. Although Trump was later re-elected and pardoned over 1,500 Capitol rioters, Pence has been largely sidelined within the Republican Party. His 2024 presidential bid failed to gain traction. Since then, he has launched a conservative advocacy group and opposed Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination as Health Secretary.
