The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the Principles First Summit, two recent gatherings in the nation’s capital, showcased the stark contrast between the two factions of the Republican Party. The CPAC event, held in Maryland, was a celebration of former President Donald Trump’s influence on the party, with Trump himself predicting “generations” of political dominance ¹.

Elon Musk, Vice President JD Vance, and other prominent Republicans joined Trump in whipping the crowd into a frenzy, boasting of recent conservative victories and promising more to come. The atmosphere was electric, with some attendees proudly wearing “MAGA king” hats.

In stark contrast, the Principles First Summit in downtown Washington D.C. was a more subdued affair. The gathering, which brought together anti-Trump Republicans, right-leaning independents, and disgruntled Democrats, lacked the energy and enthusiasm of the CPAC event.

Failed Trump opponents, including former Governors Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson, attempted to reassure the crowd that Trumpism might not be here to stay. However, they acknowledged that they were swimming against a powerful tide.
