Chicago – March 11, 2026

A planned real estate project linked to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump, has been cancelled following political backlash and legal controversy. Kushner’s investment firm had partnered with the Serbian government to develop a luxury hotel and residential complex at the site of the former Yugoslav Defence Ministry building in Belgrade.

However, the project drew widespread criticism from activists and opposition groups who said the historic site should be preserved. Prosecutors also launched corruption charges against several Serbian officials connected to the deal. Amid the growing controversy and protests, Kushner’s firm announced it would withdraw from the project.

The decision effectively ended the Trump-branded development plan, which had been valued at around $500 million and sparked debate about political influence and business ties.
