US Vice President JD Vance has announced that he will accompany his wife, Usha, on her visit to Greenland, amid growing diplomatic tensions. Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has accused the US of exerting “unacceptable pressure” on the autonomous Danish territory.

Initially, the White House stated that the Second Lady would attend a dog-sledding race and visit various parts of the island. However, the itinerary has changed, with the Vances now set to visit the Pituffik Space Base, a US military facility, on Friday.

Vice President Vance explained that he would meet with US service members and receive a briefing on Arctic security issues. The trip’s focus has shifted from celebrating Greenlandic culture to emphasizing Arctic security concerns.

The decision has sparked controversy, with Denmark’s Prime Minister expressing concerns about US pressure on Greenland. The visit comes amid growing interest in the region’s strategic importance and natural resources.
