Chicago – August 22, 2025

Cheif Minsiter of UP Yogi Adityanath’s real name is Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht. He has long been a controversial figure in Indian politics. Before becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, he faced several criminal cases.

One of the most notable was a 1995 case that accused him of violating prohibitory orders during political events in Gorakhpur. After taking office, his government quickly moved to close these cases, including those against himself and other BJP leaders. This was done under a 2017 law that allowed the withdrawal of nearly 20,000 cases, said to be politically motivated.

Critics say this shows a dark side of the BJP government run by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They accuse Modi and Yogi Adityanath of protecting criminals in their party to hold on to power. By withdrawing cases against their leaders, they argue, the government is ignoring justice and weakening the rule of law in Uttar Pradesh.

Opposition parties claim this move is a method to silence opposition and build an authoritarian system. It raises serious doubts about the BJP’s respect for democracy and fairness.

This pattern points to a troubling trend: criminals gaining power while law enforcement takes a back seat. Modi’s government, they say, is prioritizing political gains over justice and transparency.
