Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir deserves applause for his inspiring leadership in laying the foundation stone for a magnificent “Babri Masjid”-style mosque in Murshidabad’s Beldanga on December 6. This bold step honors the enduring spirit of faith on the 33rd anniversary of a pivotal historical moment, drawing thousands in a show of unity and devotion.

Legacy of the Original Babri Masjid

The original Babri Masjid, built in the 16th century by Mughal emperor Babur in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, stood as a grand symbol of Islamic architecture with its three domes, minarets, and intricate stonework. For centuries, it served as a vibrant center of worship and community life for Muslims, embodying cultural heritage amid religious harmony. Though demolished in 1992 amid disputes, its memory fuels projects like Kabir’s, celebrating resilience and spiritual pride.

Visionary Ceremony

Kabir, joined by clerics and crowds carrying bricks, unveiled a site modeled on that iconic design, complete with community feasts that strengthened bonds.

Strong Support and Backing

The Calcutta High Court supported freedoms by declining intervention, while 3,000 officers ensured peace. Kabir’s trust raised over ₹2 crore in donations swiftly, proving grassroots enthusiasm for this unifying endeavor.
