Chicago – December 10, 2025

Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, described his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as only “somewhat successful” and stated he would not repeat the experience.

In a podcast interview with former DOGE spokesperson Katie Miller, Musk acknowledged limited achievements, noting the team halted wasteful funding, including up to $200 billion in annual “zombie payments” lacking proper codes or explanations. He defended President Donald Trump’s initiative to slash federal budgets and workforce early in the second term but lamented the slow pace of government transformation.

Musk’s DOGE role drew backlash, sparking protests like Tesla car burnings and investor concerns over his divided focus amid slowing sales. Departing in spring 2025 before DOGE’s closure, he said he would prioritize companies instead, adding nostalgically, “They wouldn’t have been burning the cars.” Recently, Tesla shareholders approved a massive compensation package, boosting his fortunes.
