Chicago – December 14, 2025

A tragic incident unfolded at a Jewish holiday event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where two armed men opened fire, killing 11 people before being subdued by a brave Muslim bystander.

Authorities confirmed the suspect began his attack near a community gathering point before the bystander, 43-year-old fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed, tackled the armed man from behind despite being unarmed. He then wrenched the rifle from him before pointing the gun back at the man.

Community leaders from both Muslim and Jewish groups have praised Ahmad’s act as a powerful reminder of unity in times of crisis. Local officials emphasized that his courage highlights the strength of shared humanity beyond religious or cultural lines.

One suspected gunman was killed and another was in a critical condition following the shooting at the beach event marking the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, and police said they were investigating whether a third gunman was involved.

Local media outlet Seven News identified him and said he had been hospitalised after sustaining two gunshot wounds.

In a moment defined by terror, Ahmad’s bravery not only saved lives but also stood as a symbol of compassion and solidarity — a reminder that courage knows no faith or boundary.
