Chicago – October 20, 2025
U.S. Border Patrol agents conducting immigration enforcement in Chicago have been equipped with body cameras, as revealed during a court hearing addressing concerns over the aggressive tactics used in recent immigration raids.
Deputy Incident Commander Kyle Harvick testified that all Border Patrol agents involved in Operation Midway Blitz, which includes 201 agents in the Chicago area, now carry body-worn cameras. This measure follows a court order by U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis requiring agents to wear cameras and activate them during arrests, searches, and protests.
The hearing scrutinized federal immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has led to over 1,000 arrests and complaints regarding the use of tear gas and other crowd control methods. Harvick defended a recent incident in a Chicago neighborhood where tear gas was deployed, explaining that agents faced a dangerous crowd preventing their exit, posing safety risks to agents, detainees, and bystanders.
The judge has also mandated that agents must display badges and refrain from certain riot control tactics against peaceful protesters and journalists. The hearing continues amid community concerns and ongoing legal challenges to federal immigration enforcement practices in Chicago.
