Chicago – January 22, 2026

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed strong disappointment with fellow Democrats who voted to hold Bill and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas in the House Oversight Committee’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

In a private meeting Thursday, Pelosi criticized nearly half of the committee’s Democrats for supporting the Wednesday vote, noting the Clintons were still negotiating terms for potential testimony. Described as “emphatic,” she argued no action should proceed until the Justice Department releases all Epstein files, rejecting comparisons to Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro’s cases.

Nine Democrats backed contempt against Bill Clinton, three against Hillary, despite leadership opposition from Rep. Jamie Raskin. The rift highlights tensions as Republicans push the probe amid demands for transparency from figures like Florida AG Pam Bondi. Democratic leaders seek to avert a full House vote, hoping for a resolution.
