Chicago – January 22, 2026

US President Donald Trump has formally withdrawn Canada’s invitation to participate in his newly launched Board of Peace, a high-level initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts including Gaza reconstruction.

The announcement, shared via Truth Social on January 22, 2026, addressed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney directly: “Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time.”

The decision follows a public clash at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Carney criticized US tariffs linked to Greenland acquisition efforts and warned of fractures in the global order. Carney had initially agreed “in principle” to join but raised concerns over funding and aid preconditions for Gaza.

This snub escalates US-Canada strains, with Trump launching the board hours earlier without Canada, alongside representatives from over a dozen nations. Carney’s office has not commented, amid broader ambitions for the board as a UN alternative.
