A 19-year-old suburban Chicago man has been charged in the brutal killing of pregnant mother Eliza Morales, who was stabbed approximately 70 times in her Downers Grove apartment following a Facebook Marketplace vehicle transaction, authorities said.
Prosecutors allege Nedas Revuckas attacked 30-year-old Morales after becoming enraged over the condition of a pickup truck her husband had listed for sale online, then set a fire inside the unit and stabbed the family dog.
Morales, who was five months pregnant and leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, was found near the apartment door after firefighters responded to the blaze; the coroner later ruled she died of multiple sharp-force injuries, with her unborn child also not surviving.
Revuckas faces charges including first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child and aggravated cruelty to animals, and has been denied pretrial release, with a judge calling the attack a “violent, brutal unprovoked” assault.
