Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has appointed Prof Uzma Firdaus as Chairperson of the Department of Paediatrics at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. The appointment, effective November 24, marks the beginning of her three-year term.
Prof Firdaus is a distinguished clinician and academician with 18 years of teaching experience. Her expertise lies in neonatology and developmental paediatrics. She currently serves as Nodal Officer for the District Early Intervention Centre and the Centre of Excellence under the Rashtriya Bal SwasthyaKaryakram (RBSK), National Health Mission. Prof Firdaus has led a major multicentric research project on severe pneumonia in children under the IndiaCLEN and MCH STAR initiative.
She has published 40 research papers in national and international journals, presented 25 papers, and authored three books. Prof Firdaus has supervised numerous postgraduate theses and received several awards, including the Prof R.S. Dayal Gold Medal in Neonatology, the Dr Hadi Hasan Memorial Medal, and the Pfizer Award.
Trained in Paediatric and Neonatal Advanced Life Support, she is also a certified trainer for the NavjaatShishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK).
