Chicago – April 28, 2025

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has recently witnessed exceptional achievements by its students, who have garnered recognition both nationally and internationally in the fields of science and literature. These accomplishments have not only brought pride to the institution but also enhanced its reputation globally.

Arshian Shahid and Shahzad Iqbal, two promising research scholars from AMU’s Department of Life Sciences, represented India and South Asia at the prestigious European Congress of Mammalogy in Petra, where they presented their groundbreaking research to an international audience. The conference, held once every four years, brings together leading experts from around the world. Remarkably, Shahid and Iqbal were the sole representatives from India and South Asia at the event.

Under the guidance of Professor Uroosal Elias, the students presented their research, which received widespread international acclaim. Shahzad Iqbal showcased two research posters focused on the conservation of wolves in central India, while Arshian Shahid delivered an oral presentation examining the relationship between tigers, elephants, and other species at the Palamau Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand, with a particular focus on the ecological behavior of the Indian bison. Both students described the experience as a defining moment in their academic careers.

In another notable achievement, Miss Shada Khan, a second-semester MA French student, has been selected for a prestigious, fully sponsored internship in France as part of the AM ICIF Cultural Sketches Program. This program, recognized by the United Nations and in collaboration with the Lions Club of France, is designed to offer students international exposure. Khan is one of the sixteen fortunate students selected globally, and notably, she is the only representative from Uttar Pradesh.

Professor Muhammad Azhar, Dean of the Faculty of International Studies at AMU, congratulated Shada Khan on her outstanding accomplishment, emphasizing that it serves as a testament to the university’s global recognition and its commitment to fostering academic excellence.

These achievements underscore AMU’s growing influence in the global academic community and its role in elevating India’s academic stature on the world stage. Through the efforts of its dedicated students, AMU continues to shine as a beacon of knowledge and international recognition.
