Chicago – March 10, 2025

In Jammu and Kashmir, a fashion show in Gulmarg has sparked controversy for being held during the holy month of Ramzan. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, said that his government would never have approved such an event at any time of the year. Many people called the show “obscene,” leading to protests.

The fashion show took place on March 7 and was organized by a private party in a hotel. It has caused upset among many, including Kashmir’s chief priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. He expressed that promoting tourism through what he sees as obscenity is unacceptable, especially in a region known for its religious and Sufi traditions.

The Chief Minister addressed the issue in the assembly, acknowledging the concerns and confirming that the government did not organize the event. He also mentioned that the outrage over the show was justified.

The designers of the fashion show, Shivan & Narresh, have apologized for any offense caused by their designs during Ramzan. They said they are sorry for hurting people’s feelings.
