Former presidential adviser Van Jones criticized the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity on Monday, saying it would let Trump break the law without consequences.
The Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States that a former president is largely immune from prosecution for official acts done while in office but not for unofficial acts. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority, “The President is not above the law. But Congress may not criminalize the President’s conduct in carrying out the responsibilities of the Executive Branch under the Constitution.”
Jones argued that the Supreme Court, with this ruling, is not acting as a fair referee but instead appears biased, as if they are wearing “red jerseys, or even MAGA hats,” allowing Trump to commit crimes without fear of punishment.
Jones believes this decision shows the justices are not protecting the rule of law but rather giving Trump more freedom to break it.
