Several election officials and members of the Democratic Party in Georgia have filed a lawsuit against the Georgia State Election Board. The lawsuit challenges two new rules that were approved by three board members endorsed by former President Trump.
These rules mandate election officials to thoroughly check the accuracy of election results and permit county election board members to review all election-related documents before certifying the results.
The plaintiffs argue that although the rules seem to respect the deadlines for certifying election results by only allowing reasonable inquiries and examinations, they could still cause delays. The lawsuit claims these rules give officials too much freedom to search for any potential irregularities, which could lead to delays in certifying the election results and potentially cause chaos. The election board has not yet responded to these allegations. The lawsuit aims to ensure that the November election results are certified on time without any disruptions.
