Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke out at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, criticizing JD Vance’s remarks that school shootings are just a part of life. Walz compared this to the reality that some people are gay, stressing that children being shot at school should never be considered normal.
This comes after a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, where four people were killed and nine others were injured. The day after the shooting, Vance, during a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, described school shootings as a “fact of life” and suggested increasing security in schools to prevent such incidents.
Walz challenged this view, emphasizing the importance of standing up for what’s right, especially when it’s difficult. He also criticized former President Donald Trump, claiming Trump did little to combat childhood poverty during his term. Walz’s remarks highlighted his commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and his stance against normalizing school shootings.
