Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is revisiting a 2020 deal made by former President Donald Trump with the Taliban. This comes as Trump, who is running for president again, has criticized her for the messy way U.S. soldiers were pulled out of Afghanistan under President Biden’s leadership.
Three years ago, on August 26, there was a tragic attack at Kabul’s airport in Afghanistan. A suicide bomber killed 13 American soldiers, hurt 18, and also killed around 170 Afghans.
During a recent speech in Detroit, Trump blamed the embarrassing situation in Afghanistan on both Harris and President Biden.
Harris’ campaign responded by pointing out that Trump had once planned, then suddenly canceled, a meeting with Taliban leaders at Camp David right before September 11. They argue that Trump’s agreement with the Taliban made it very hard for the next administration to leave Afghanistan smoothly. They claim he left behind a risky and disorganized situation and is now unfairly attacking Harris to make people forget his own actions.
