House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York, had a private meeting with President Joe Biden on Thursday night.
On Friday morning, Jeffries sent a letter to House Democrats explaining that he had requested the meeting, which happened after President Biden’s important press conference at the NATO summit.
“In my talk with President Biden, I shared all the insights, heartfelt views, and conclusions from our recent meetings,” Jeffries wrote. Since Monday, Jeffries has been talking with House Democrats and smaller groups within his caucus to understand their feelings about whether Biden can continue to represent Democrats in the presidential race after a debate where Biden made several mistakes.
Jeffries did not mention in the letter if he asked Biden to step down from the race. Biden has said many times that he does not plan to leave the presidential race.
Jeffries ended the letter by saying, “As House Democrats have done throughout this Congress, we will keep working in the best interests of everyday Americans.”
