An Ohio steel mill is expecting a big boost from former President Donald Trump’s new tariff plan, according to the CEO of JSW Steel USA.
Robert Simon, who leads JSW Steel USA, told Fox News Digital that Trump’s tariffs will help his company grow. “It’s an important part of our plan to increase production from 68% to about 84% in the next year and even more after that,” Simon said in an interview Thursday. “It’s a very exciting time for us.”
JSW Steel USA is part of JSW Group, a large steel company based in India. In the U.S., JSW has two locations—one in Mingo Junction, Ohio, and another in Baytown, Texas.
Simon, who has worked in the steel industry for more than 30 years, said American steel companies follow strict safety and environmental rules and pay workers fairly. However, foreign steel manufacturers often avoid these rules while still selling their products in the U.S.
With Trump’s tariffs in place, Simon expects the Ohio plant to add at least 100 jobs over the next year.
Last week, Trump’s administration announced it was restoring a 25% tariff on steel, aiming to help U.S. steel and aluminum companies reach at least 80% production capacity. JSW Steel USA is already ahead of that goal, planning to increase from 68% to 84%.
Simon believes the tariff plan will strengthen American manufacturing and create more jobs, making it a win for both workers and the steel industry.
