Chicago – September 20, 2024
Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, spoke in Georgia about the need to bring back abortion rights. This comes after a sad event where Amber Nicole Thurman, a 28-year-old woman, died because doctors were unsure about how to proceed due to new abortion laws. This incident highlighted the risks that came with the Supreme Court’s decision to end the constitutional right to an abortion in 2022.
Harris emphasized that this situation shows why changes are needed. She blamed former President Donald Trump for the changes because he chose the judges who helped overturn Roe v. Wade. This decision has led to new abortion laws in 20 states.
Harris spoke to about 600 people during her speech and shared Amber’s story. Amber wanted to attend nursing school, but her life was cut short. The crowd showed their support by repeating Amber’s name together.
Harris’s campaign stop in Georgia is part of her efforts as she runs against Trump in the upcoming election, where polls show her slightly behind.
