Chicago – January 14, 2025

President Joe Biden has decided to stop calling Cuba a state sponsor of terrorism, according to an announcement from the White House. This decision is part of a deal with the Catholic Church to help free political prisoners in Cuba.

Officials from the U.S. government, who wanted to stay anonymous, shared that many prisoners who the U.S. thinks should not be in jail will be released before President Biden leaves office on January 20th.

In addition to this, the U.S. plans to reduce some of the tough economic rules on Cuba. These rules were made stricter by a memo from former President Donald Trump in 2017.

However, this change might not last long. Donald Trump has been elected president again and will start his term next week. Marco Rubio, who will soon be the Secretary of State, might change this decision when he takes over as America’s main foreign affairs official.
