Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s Awami Action Committee and Masroor Abbas Ansari’s Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen have been banned by the government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
In this regard, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq strongly condemned the ban, calling it a conspiracy to silence the voices of Kashmiris. He further mentioned in a post that the organization was founded in 1964 by Shaheed-e-Billat, who raised the democratic voice of the Kashmiris.
Deputy Commissioner Surinder Choudhary commented on the issue, saying that he would give a statement after reading the matter. “So far, no notice has been issued. We haven’t read or seen anything yet. We only saw it in the media,” he said. “Once we read and understand it, we will provide a statement.” He added that until they have seen it with their own eyes, they cannot make a statement.
Regarding this ban, he mentioned that the government is trying to weaken religious and social institutions in Kashmir. NC MLA Ejaz Khan also stated that this ban will not improve the situation but will demoralize the people.
