Amer Ghalib, the mayor of Hamtramck, a Detroit-area city with a Muslim-majority population, has endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election. In a Facebook post on Sunday, Ghalib expressed his belief that Trump is “the right choice for this critical time.” Although he acknowledged that he and Trump disagreed, Ghalib praised the former president as “a man of principles.”
Ghalib also mentioned that while Trump’s chances of winning are promising, the election outcome remains uncertain. However, he stands firm in his decision, saying he won’t regret supporting Trump regardless of the result. “I’m ready to face the consequences,” Ghalib added.
Trump reposted Ghalib’s endorsement on his Truth Social platform, amplifying the mayor’s support. Ghalib’s endorsement is notable given his leadership in a diverse community that has not traditionally aligned with Trump in previous elections.
