Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday about his decision to send a team to restart stalled negotiations with Hamas regarding a hostage release deal. This announcement came from their respective administrations.
An anonymous source from the Israeli negotiating team mentioned that there is now a real chance of reaching an agreement because Hamas has made a new proposal. “The proposal put forward by Hamas includes a very significant breakthrough,” the source stated.
This positive Israeli response to Hamas’s proposal is a noticeable shift from previous interactions during the nearly nine-month war in Gaza. In the past, Israel found the conditions set by Hamas unacceptable.
An Israeli official revealed that the head of Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, would lead the delegation for these talks. Netanyahu planned to meet with his negotiating team later on Thursday and then discuss the hostage release talks with his security cabinet.
The White House confirmed that during a phone call, Biden and Netanyahu discussed the latest response from Hamas regarding the possible terms of a deal.
