According to recent polls, more Black Americans are excited to vote now that Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee instead of President Biden. A Washington Post-Ipsos poll shows that 69% of Black Americans are sure they will vote, which is more than 62% back in April. Another poll by the New York Times found that 56% of Black Americans are almost certain to vote, with another 33% very likely to vote.
Harris’ candidacy seems to be especially motivating for young Black voters, especially women. For Black Americans under 30, the number who plan to vote has jumped 15 points since April, up to 47%. For Black women under 40, that number has gone up 18 points to 57%.
When it comes to choosing between Harris and Trump, 82% of Black registered voters prefer Harris, while only 12% favor Trump. Harris also has strong support on most issues. However, fewer than half trust her to handle the conflict between Israel and Hamas, with 49% supporting her on this issue. Trump does slightly better on immigration, but Harris still leads with 55% of Black Americans preferring her approach to the issue.
