Chicago – July 23, 2024
President Biden will speak to the nation on Wednesday about his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential election. He will explain his reasons and share his plans for the remaining six months of his first term. The White House said his address will be from the Oval Office.
On Tuesday, Biden was seen publicly for the first time in six days at Dover Air Force Base, returning to Washington, D.C., from his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He answered one question from reporters, saying he is “feeling well” after testing negative for COVID-19.
Biden had not appeared publicly since last week. He briefly spoke on Monday via phone call to Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign headquarters, supporting her as the presumptive Democratic nominee.
After arriving at the White House, Biden is scheduled to receive his daily briefing at 3 p.m. There are no other public events on his schedule.
In a letter posted on X on Sunday, Biden said stepping down is in the “best interest of my party and the country,” allowing him to focus on his duties for the rest of his term.
