Chicago – January 22, 2025
President Donald Trump met with top Republican leaders from Congress on Tuesday at the White House. This was their first official gathering since President Trump started his second term. After the meeting, he shared some updates with everyone.
Among the leaders who attended were Senate Majority Leader John Thune from South Dakota and House Speaker Mike Johnson from Louisiana. Both are expected to speak to reporters soon about what was discussed during the meeting.
Last year, there were some disagreements between President Trump and a few Republican Congress members when the government was close to shutting down. Fortunately, they managed to avoid that crisis. Other important Republican figures at the meeting included House Majority Leader Steve Scalise from Louisiana, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer from Minnesota, and House GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain from Michigan.
On his first day back in office, President Trump signed several executive orders. He also mentioned that he is looking forward to working closely with the Republican members of Congress to get important parts of his plans passed into laws.
The meeting is seen as a chance for President Trump and the Republican leaders to work together and achieve common goals.
