President Donald Trump announced that he asked Rep. Elise Stefanik from New York to step down from the race for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Trump explained on Truth Social that with the House GOP’s slim majority, he needed Elise to stay in Congress to help with important goals like delivering tax cuts, creating jobs, improving the economy, securing the border, and promoting energy independence. He said Elise is loved by the people and would help ensure success in the upcoming election.
Trump also mentioned that there are other people who could do a good job as ambassador to the United Nations. Despite Stefanik having strong support and likely being confirmed by the Senate, there was pressure on her to withdraw from consideration for the role.
